If the quotient of two consecutive terms of a sequence consisting of a fixed or an indefinite number of numbers is always a constant number, then the sequence is called a multiplicative progression or multiplicative progression or multiplicative series. The quotient of two consecutive terms is called a common ratio. For example, the sequence 3, 9, 27, 81, … is a multiplicative sequence whose common ratio is 3.
