A photo diode is a semiconductor device with a PN junction that converts photons or light into electrical energy.
It has positive ions or large number of holes as the majority carrier in P layer and electrons as the majority carrier in N layer. Photodiodes can be made from a variety of materials, including silicon, germanium, and indium gallium arsenide. However, whatever metal is used, the following parameters are considered in their use.
– Price
– Sensitivity.
– Wavelength limit.
_ Noise
– Ability to speed up response
