Before starting let’s give an example. Let’s talk about a bicycle and a motorbike. We don’t need to turn on a bike to ride or operate it. We can work with it whenever we want. That is, its religion is such that it is always active. So we can call it an active device. But what happens in the case of a motorbike? The bike must be switched on to operate it. Moreover, it is not able to move or work. That is, it is not always integral. So we can call it, an active device.
In electronics, the concept of active and passive is the same. There are some components in electronics that don’t need to be turned on beforehand to make them work. They are always active. We can use them whenever we want. We call them passive devices. Again, there are many components that need to be turned on like a bike for use. We call them active devices.
There are only three passive devices in all electronics. namely-
Resistor
Capacitor
Inductor
