Bad odors trigger vomiting because exposure to bad odors stimulates a part of our brain, the medulla oblongata, which stimulates the vomiting center. The medulla oblongata is a small part that controls many important functions in our body, including vomiting.
When exposed to odors, the medulla oblongata releases a chemical that stimulates the vomiting center. This chemical causes our stomach and intestinal muscles to contract, which results in vomiting.
