Sir Isaac Newton gave his famous law of gravitation in 1687. Where he mentions, every object in the universe attracts each other towards itself. He gave the formula for determining the value of this force of attraction in his formula and also determined the direction of this force.

Newton’s law of gravitation is-

Every particle of the universe attracts each other towards itself. The value of this attractive force is proportional to the product of the masses of the two particles and is proportional to the square of the distance between them. This force acts along the straight line connecting the centers of mass of the two objects.

In fact, it is because of this force that the universe exists. Because there is a gravitational force between us and the Earth, we feel the pull toward the Earth and stick to it. Even because of the gravitational force between the Moon and the Earth, the Moon is confined within the orbit of the Earth and revolves around the Earth. Again for the same reason, our earth revolves around the sun. Jupiter is protecting our earth by pulling the asteroids or objects coming from other galaxies into itself through its huge gravitational force.
